Study No. 22 in Bm by Fernando Sor
Published on December 3, 2019
I’m publishing some arrangements (videos + tabs) of music originally written for guitar, mostly from the late classical and romantic periods. These arrangements are released under a CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) Public Domain Dedication license, and freely available from IMSLP.
Fernando Sor was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1778. As a composer, he’s mostly known for his guitar works. This study is part of a collection titled 24 Exercices très faciles, Op.35 published in Paris in 1828. In Segovia’s compilation of Sor’s studies –Twenty Studies for Classical Guitar (1945)– this piece appears as No. 5.
Here is a lovely rendition by Julian Bream on the guitar.
For practical reasons, this arrangement transposes the piece to A minor. I try to follow the original closely, exceptions –mainly, leaving out the basses– are required due to the limited range of the ukulele. This arrangement fits nicely in a 12 fret reentrant ukulele.
